AI Setup (BYOK)
With BYOK (Bring Your Own Key), you connect your own AI API key to dVersum. This gives you access to advanced features like persistent memory and Telegram integration -- while keeping full control over your AI usage.
What Is BYOK?
BYOK means you use your own API key from OpenAI or Anthropic instead of your organization's system key. The benefits:
- Full features: Access to persistent memory, Telegram integration, and activity learning
- Model selection: Choose the AI model that best suits your needs
- Cost control: You can see and control your AI costs directly with the provider
- Privacy: Your requests go through your own account
Supported Providers
OpenAI
| Model | Description |
|---|---|
| GPT-4 Turbo | Most powerful model, ideal for complex tasks |
| GPT-4 | Very capable, slightly slower |
| GPT-3.5 Turbo | Fast and cost-effective for simple tasks |
You can get API keys at platform.openai.com/api-keys.
Anthropic Claude

You can get API keys at console.anthropic.com.
Setup Step by Step
Step 1: Open Settings
Navigate to Settings > AI Assistant.
Step 2: Choose Provider
Select your preferred provider:
- OpenAI -- for GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 models
- Anthropic -- for Claude models
Step 3: Enter API Key
Paste your API key into the input field:
- OpenAI keys start with
sk- - Anthropic keys start with
sk-ant-
Step 4: Select Model
Choose the desired AI model from the list. The available models depend on the selected provider.
Step 5: Test Connection
Click Test to verify the connection. dVersum sends a test request to the provider and shows you the result.
Step 6: Save
Click Save to apply the configuration.
Security
Your API keys are handled with the highest security:
- Encryption: AES-256-GCM encryption at rest
- Per user: Each user stores their own key
- No plaintext: Keys are never stored or transmitted in plaintext
- Deletable: You can remove your key at any time
System Key (Fallback)
If your organization has configured a system API key, you can use the AI assistant without your own key. However, not all features will be available:
| Feature | System Key | BYOK |
|---|---|---|
| Chat & Tools | Yes | Yes |
| Customize Personality | Yes | Yes |
| Persistent Memory | -- | Yes |
| Telegram Integration | -- | Yes |
| Activity Learning | -- | Yes |
Customizing Personality
Regardless of whether you use BYOK or the system key, you can personalize the assistant. The settings can be found under Settings > AI Assistant in the Personality section.
Assistant Name
Give the assistant a custom name. By default it is called "Lego", but you can rename it -- e.g., to your company name or a creative name.
Response Style
Choose from 5 presets:
| Style | Description |
|---|---|
| Balanced | Default mix of brevity and detail |
| Concise | Short, to-the-point answers |
| Detailed | Thorough explanations with context |
| Formal | Professional, business-like language |
| Casual | Relaxed, friendly tone |
Custom Instructions
Enter up to 2,000 characters of individual instructions. Examples:
- "Always respond in German, even if I write in English"
- "Always use 19% VAT as default for invoices"
- "Keep it short and use bullet points"
Disconnecting
If you want to remove your API key:
- Go to Settings > AI Assistant
- Click Disconnect
- Confirm the action
When disconnecting, only the API key is removed. Your personality settings (name, style, instructions) are preserved and restored when you connect a new key.
dVersum Tip
If you use the AI assistant extensively, having your own API key is worthwhile. This gives you access to persistent memory, which remembers your preferences across conversations, and lets you use the assistant via Telegram as well.
